The History of Biryani

We take food to keep our bodies healthy and active. But some foods give us taste along with nutrition. And we can not forget this food taste in our whole life. Biryani is one such food.

Biryani is a well-known word among food lovers. It is a popular food, especially among the people of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.

Biryani has a long history in South Asia. About 400 years ago, this food had come to these countries. Biryani is still as famous as ever. Biryani means ‘fried before cooking.’ Biryani cooks in a unique process. Meat, ghee, and spice mixed with rice and steam-cooked in a big pot.

There are three stories behind the origin of biryani. History shows that Taimur brought biryani to India in 1398 from Turki. Some people said Arabs tourists brought biryani to these areas. But the most admissible story is that Mumtaz is an inventor of this recipe. One day Mumtaz visited the king’s army. And she noticed they were sick. Mumtaz decided they needed enough balanced diet. She called the armies chef and described the biryani recipe. In this manner, biryani was started and continued.

At present Bengali community likes this recipe very much. Biryani is a traditional food for Bangladeshi cuisine. The people of Old Dhaka in Bangladesh have kept the biryani tradition very well. Bengalis cannot imagine any event without biryani, and they want this item on their plate every day. City people cannot consider a single day without biryani. Nowadays, we can see variant types of biryani. Such as kacchi biryani, pakki biryani, akhni biryani, hyderabadi biryani etc. There are different recipes and processes for making each biryani item. For this reason, these items taste different.
